Back to Hinkley Reservation today

After breakfast this morning we tossed our suits on, threw the dogs in the back of the van and headed back to Hinkley Reservation. The dogs had a blast and the kids played in the sand.  After that it was home for lunch then off to the airport to pick Anna up.  We were waiting for her with a can of Krazy String.  It was pink and she got covered.

Elizabeth said the funniest thing

After dinner last night, we played in the back yard for a couple of hours. I finally dug out my clubs and we chipped balls for a while. They both got out their clubs and played along. Eventually they decided they were going to collect all of my shag balls and charge me to use them. It was funny. I started trying to hit them with balls (they were plastic) and everybody laughed.

I had to give them a bath and afterwards Elizabeth was standing naked looking in the mirror getting ready to comb her hair. She put her hands on her hips and said “I hate my hair!”  I  had to laugh, at 5 – how could she have an opinion about her hair?

Long day at the Hinkley Reservation

We had an amazing day yesterday. We had breakfast and I had to scurry to accommodate a late scheduled showing of the house. Turns out they though the back yard was too small.  Oh well.

After they left, we went on a bike ride then came home and had lunch. After lunch we decided to head out to Hinkley to climb on some cliffs. The kids were AMAZING climbing around. We spend more than an hour climbing around and doing some pretty scary stuff. I sent Anna photos of them and she got really nervous. Everyone had a great time and nobody got hurt. We’re going back there next weekend with Anna.

After the ledges (Whipps Ledges) we headed over to a lake nearby. There were hundreds of people out and a whole bunch of dogs. The kids took off their shoes and waded in and played with the dogs.  Elizabeth and August even got to touch a snake that was slithering through the lake. We vowed to take the dogs back some day (more on that later).

At the end of the day, everyone had a great time and the kids were great listeners. They slept like babies!

Bike Ride to Panera

Well, after working a full day, I promised the kids a bike ride tonight. It was a beautiful day and I thought it would be fun to get out. I’d planned on having pizza for dinner, but as I started to plan the bike ride, I decided I’d try letting them ride to someplace for dinner. We decided on Panera, about a mile away, and off we went. The kids did awesome!  We had a nice long ride and a ton of fun.

I let them sleep in the pull out bed again tonight, lets see how long Elizabeth makes it before I haull her ass upstairs to sleep in her own bed. Hopefully she knows I mean business.

Failed Experiment

A few weeks ago I was playing with the kids in the den and decided they would think it was cool to learn that the sofa was actually a pull-out bed. August immediately asked if they could sleep on it and I readily agreed. Well, Anna is out of town this weekend (looking for houses in Charlotte) and as soon as we started home from the airport the kids started asking if they could sleep in the pull-out bed tonight. I agreed as long as the entire house was picked up by the time they were supposed to go to bed.

All went well for a while, but Elizabeth and August just couldn’t go to sleep. I warned them several times, but eventually I had to drag Elizabeth upstairs to sleep in her regular bed. She kept coming out of the room and it was getting later and later. She eventually went to sleep at about 10, way too late for a little girl like her.

We’ll see what happens tonight, I’m going to give her one more chance to stay in bed.

It’s Official

The publisher has decided on a title for the book!  The book is going to be called BlackBerry Development Fundamentals (the working title was Fundamentals of BlackBerry Development, so this is close to what I was thinking would be a good title).  The book should be up on amazon.com soon, look for the book by title or use the ISBN’s for the book: ISBN-10: 0321647424 or ISBN-13: 9780321647429.

I have 5 chapters in the editing process and hope to have the 6th in at the end of the weekend.  I’m halfway through writing chapter 10, so I’m more than halfway done (10.5/16). I’m having fun, but I’ll be happy when I can stop working into the we hours of the night.

Aunt Jane?

Haven’t heard from her in a while – I hope she’s still reading the blog and is doing OK. She’s my last relative from my Father’s side of the family and we love her a bunch!!

Few showings so far

Had a couple of showings last week and one yesterday.

It’s interesting to watch this whole thing play out. We dropped the initial price of the house based upon the listing price of a larger (but not as nice) house on the street behind us. As soon as we did that, they dropped their price by $30k only three weeks after listing it.

The first people to look at our house were the realtors selling the larger (and much more expensive but not as nice) house on our same street. They immediatly dropped the price of their house by $30k.

It’s crazy. Houses aren’t being priced based upon their worth, everyone is letting everyone around them drive their house prices down. It’s definately a buyers market and it’s going to be interesting to see how this goes for us. We’re pretty happy with our listing price, but we expect that if we get an offer it’s going to be crazy low – just because of how the market is acting right now.

Crazy, I’ll say it again, crazy!
