A Jelly Bean He Didn’t Like?

Posted in The Twins on June 28th, 2009 by jwargo – Be the first to comment

Who’d a thunk it?  August and Elizabeth got some jelly beans somewhere yesterday and we let them eat them after lunch today. August got a white one that he really didn’t like. He was c0ol about it, but had to quickly get it out of his mouth as quickly as possible.  He then grabbed a napkin and started wiping his mouth out (the inside) trying to get all of the taste out.  He even got a glass of water and rinsed his mouth out.  Amazing, who would have thought he would hate a piece of candy so much.

I wonder if he ever got the taste out…

‘Finished’ the book last night…

Posted in BlackBerry Development Fundamentals on June 25th, 2009 by jwargo – Be the first to comment

Yep, it’s finished! Wow, a whole bunch of work that was. Now all I have to do is finish the review/edit phase and (woohoo!) it’s ready to publish.

So, here’s where it stands:

  • Chapters 1 through 9 have been through the edit and review process
  • Chapters 10 and 11 are in the review process
  • I still need to give 12 through 18 a read and submit them to the reviewers and editors

Making progress!

Chapter 10 Almost Finished

Posted in Miscellaneous on June 22nd, 2009 by jwargo – Be the first to comment

Well, the last thing I had to do (writing-wise) on the book was finish chapter 10. The chapter is about some beta tools, so RIM was nice enough to give me the screen captures I needed for the book. I got them all in and need a few more – I should be able to FINISH the book tomorrow night. All I can say is…Wow!

Driving Range

Posted in Miscellaneous on June 22nd, 2009 by jwargo – Be the first to comment

August wanted to go to the driving range tonight, so after I finished work today, August and I grabbed some clubs and headed out. I purchased him a large bucket of balls and he hit all of them. It’s hard to keep him from spinning around with every shot, but when he stood straight and didn’t spin, he hit the ball 20 yards. Very nice.

I’ll take Elizabeth to the range next weekend.

Best Father’s Day Ever

So today is the first father’s day I have ever spent with my kids. Every year, Anna has them in Houston visiting with her family. It was never on purpose, but it always worked out that way. Yesterday we took the kids to the driving range then out to play miniature golf. Today, since it was my day, we all went golfing. It was amazing fun. They both did pretty well and August already wants to golf again!

Book Update

Posted in BlackBerry Development Fundamentals on June 19th, 2009 by jwargo – Be the first to comment

Finished chapter 16 late last night. The chapter turned out pretty well, better than I expected. All I have left to do writing-wise is finish half of chapter 10. I should be able to complete that by Monday and the writing will be done.

As soon as the writing is done, the editing/review process begins. I’ve got the first half of the book in the review process, so all I need to do is get the last half in there. Monday begins giving each chapter a thorough read then send them off to the reviewers and the editor. Should take me a couple of weeks to get that going (there are 9 chapters to work on) and get this HUGE project wrapped up.

I now know why every computer book is dedicated to the wife of the author. Writing a technical book is a huge undertaking and Anna has had to do almost everything these last 8 months as I worked on this thing. Good thing she’s awesome.

  • I'm not a fan of presenters who read every word on a slide. The slide should be displayed while you tell a story about it. #

Silly Rabbits

Posted in Miscellaneous on June 18th, 2009 by jwargo – Be the first to comment

A few years ago we had these silly rabbits that built a nest and had babies in the flower bed right outside our back porch door. It didn’t take long for the dogs to find them and kill a few bunnies. How stupid – the dogs are outside chasing rabbits every day, you’d think they’d know.

Well, I went outside the other day and there appears to be a new nest -even closer to the door and more easily visible.

Rabbit Nest?
